Most of us start our own business because we want more freedom, more control, more spaciousness to pursue our purpose.
Sometimes, though, it seems like the business starts owning us– even more than the corporate jobs we left. It’s hard to turn off. There’s an endless to-do list, and no one else to do it.
I’ve been thinking about this a lot, as my twins just started their senior year of high school, so in a year I (hopefully) will have a lot more scheduling flexibility. What do I want to do with that? (I also just finished listening to 10X is Easier than 2X, which has a lot of interesting ideas on this subject.)
Even better, I had an amazing conversation with Lydia Lee, who got burned out in her corporate job, then got burned out on the business she started for herself, and had to rethink her business and her life from the ground up.
She spends most of the year in Bali, works with clients asynchronously, does work that she loves, but even better, has a life that she loves. She shares lots of great tips in our Sales for Nerds conversation.
If you found something you can apply to your business, what was it? (You don’t have to go all the way to Bali.)
